About the beta One Little City is currently free for parents in Falls Church City, VA. The school calendar, camps, and after-school programs in the app are all FCCPS / FCC-Recreation. If you're outside Falls Church, you can join the waitlist from the More tab in the app — we're picking the next city based on where the demand is loudest.

Getting started

How do I create an account?

Open the app, tap "Get started," and choose Sign in with Apple, Google, or email code. You'll be walked through a 5-step setup: welcome → add your kids → claim a forwarding address → connect your calendar → pick summer camps. The whole flow takes about 2 minutes.

Why am I seeing an "unverified app" warning when I sign in with Google?

That warning is there because our app is still going through Google's verification process. It's safe to continue — tap "Advanced" then "Go to onelittlecity.com (unsafe)." The warning will go away once Google finishes reviewing us. We do not read your Gmail, contacts, or files. Sign-in only confirms your identity (email and display name) and lets us write to your Google Calendar if you explicitly tap "Sync to Google Calendar." See our privacy policy for details.

How do I add or edit a kid?

Tap the Family tab in the bottom nav, then tap the "+ Add Child" button. You'll be asked for a first name, age (or birthday), grade, school, and an optional color. To edit an existing kid, tap their card and use the gear icon in the top right.

School inbox & forwarded emails

What's a forwarding address and how does it work?

When you sign up, we give you a unique address like your-name@inbox.onelittlecity.com. Forward any school email to that address — newsletters, field trip notices, sports updates — and we'll parse it into proposed events and action items on the right kid's calendar. Things like "Mt. Daniel Field Trip on May 5" become a real entry; "Sign Henry's permission slip by Friday" becomes a task with a due date.

You can find your forwarding address any time at More → Family inbox in the app.

I forwarded an email but it's not showing up. What happened?

A few things to check:

  1. The email was forwarded from the email address you signed up with. We only accept forwards from accounts we recognize, to protect against spam. If you forwarded from a different account (e.g. a work email), it'll be ignored.
  2. Wait a few minutes — parsing is async and can take 30-60 seconds for long emails.
  3. Check the Forwarded tab inside Family inbox. If the email arrived but couldn't be parsed (e.g. it had no dates), it'll be there with a note.
  4. If it's been more than 5 minutes and nothing arrived, email us at hello@onelittlecity.com — please include the subject of the email you forwarded.
Can I forward emails from my co-parent's account?

Yes — once you've linked accounts under More → Co-parent sync, both of you can forward to your shared inbox. Either parent's forward shows up on both of your calendars.

Will you read my regular email?

No. We only see emails you explicitly forward to your inbox address. Your normal inbox stays private.

Calendar sync

How do I subscribe Google / Apple / Outlook Calendar to my family agenda?

Tap More → Sync to your calendar. We give you a private iCal feed URL — copy it, then in your calendar app:

Updates appear within an hour. Recurring events (e.g. "every Tuesday soccer practice") flow through with proper repeat rules.

Why aren't my recurring events repeating in Google Calendar?

Recurrence is supported for events you add manually with a Repeat rule (Daily / Weekly / Biweekly / Monthly). Forwarded school emails currently surface only the first occurrence. If a school program repeats every Tuesday and you want the whole series in your calendar, add it manually via the "+ Add" button on Today or My Calendar with a weekly repeat.

How do I unsubscribe my external calendar from One Little City?

In your calendar app, find the subscribed calendar and remove it. The feed URL is also revocable in-app: More → Sync to your calendar → Revoke link. Once revoked, the URL stops working everywhere.

Camps & programs

How do the AI camp recommendations work?

The Camps tab shows a 10-week × N-kid grid for the summer. Empty weeks pulse yellow. Tap any yellow cell and we'll suggest the three best-fit camps for that kid and that week, ranked by interest match, lead time, and what they've enjoyed before. The "Best fit" badge marks our top pick. We never invent camps — every suggestion is a real Falls Church Recreation, FCCPS, or vetted local program from our catalog.

How do I un-pick or change a camp?

On the Camps grid, tap any cell that's already filled in (it'll be in your kid's color). You can swap to a different camp, mark the week as "skip," or clear the pick entirely.

Will One Little City register me for camps?

No — we don't process payments or registrations. When you confirm a camp pick, we'll show you the auto-fill information you'll need (parent name, kid age, school) and open the camp provider's registration page in a new tab. You complete the signup with the provider directly.

Can I get a reminder when registration opens?

Yes. On the camp confirmation step, leave the "Remind me to register" toggle on. We'll add a task to your calendar one day before the camp week starts, and surface it in your daily agenda.

Co-parent sync

How do I invite my co-parent?

Tap More → Co-parent sync and choose Invite. We'll generate a 6-digit code and a shareable link. The other parent enters the code or taps the link, and within seconds you'll both see the same agenda, kids, and forwarded emails.

What can my co-parent see?

Everything on the family calendar: kids, school dates, camps, programs, parsed school emails, and any events either of you adds manually. Both parents can edit and add. There's a per-item "Just for me" toggle if you want to keep something private (tap any chip on the agenda to find it).

How do I disconnect from a co-parent?

Either parent can disconnect at any time: More → Co-parent sync → Leave family. Your data stays on your account; you stop seeing the other parent's updates and they stop seeing yours.

Privacy & data

What data do you collect about my kids?

Only what you enter: first name, age (or birthday — kept on-device for camp age-eligibility math), grade, school, and an optional color. We don't ask for last names, photos, school IDs, medical info, or anything we don't need to surface relevant events. Full details in our privacy policy.

How do I delete my account?

In the app: tap your avatar in the top right → Settings → Account → Delete account. Deletion is immediate and irreversible — your family data, forwarded emails, camp picks, and account record are all removed within 24 hours. If you no longer have access to your account, email privacy@onelittlecity.com and we'll delete on your behalf.

Do you sell or share my data?

No. We don't sell data, we don't show ads, and we don't share with third parties except the infrastructure providers that run the app (Google/Firebase, Anthropic, Postmark, Apple). Full vendor list in the privacy policy.

Common problems

I'm not getting push notifications.

Two common fixes:

  1. Permission: iPhone Settings → Notifications → One Little City → toggle Allow Notifications on.
  2. In-app preferences: tap your avatar → Settings → Notifications. Make sure the categories you care about (school updates, camp deadlines) are turned on.

If notifications still don't arrive, force-close and reopen the app — sometimes the device token needs a fresh handshake. If that doesn't fix it, email us with your device model and iOS version.

The app is slow or won't load.

Most loading issues clear with a hard refresh: pull down on the home screen to reload. If that doesn't help, sign out and back in (Settings → Account → Sign out). Reinstalling the app is a last resort — you won't lose data, since everything's stored on your account in the cloud.

I tapped Add but the event isn't showing up.

If you saw the "Added!" toast, the event was saved. It may take a moment to appear if you have a slow connection — wait 5 seconds and pull down to refresh. If you didn't see the toast, check the form for a red error message at the bottom (you may need to scroll). Most failed adds are missing a required field (title or date). If you keep seeing errors with no obvious cause, email hello@onelittlecity.com with what you typed and we'll investigate.

Address autocomplete doesn't work when I add an event.

The Where field uses Google Places to suggest addresses. If suggestions don't appear, plain text still works — just type the address yourself. If autocomplete is unavailable in your area or for your account, the field falls back gracefully without an error.

About the beta

Why is this only for Falls Church City?

We're a small team, and the value of the app comes from local data — the FCCPS calendar, FCC Recreation camps, after-school programs at City schools. We chose to start in one city, do it really well, and expand only when we have the school-calendar and camp data ready for the next district. "Built for our town" beats "works in your town."

When will you expand to other cities?

We don't have a date. We're picking the next city based on where the demand is loudest — if you're outside Falls Church and want this for your area, tap More → Outside Falls Church? Join the waitlist. The more sign-ups we have from your district, the higher it ranks.

Can I help test new features?

Yes — TestFlight invitations go to active users who've been around for a few weeks. We'll reach out via email if you're a fit. You can also drop us a line at hello@onelittlecity.com with what you'd like to test.

Disclaimer

Are you affiliated with FCCPS or the City of Falls Church?

No. One Little City is an independent app made by a Falls Church City parent. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Falls Church City Public Schools, the City of Falls Church, Falls Church City Recreation & Parks, or any school district mentioned in the app. School calendars and camp listings are aggregated from public sources and forwarded emails.
