About One Little City

Built by a parent. For parents.

How It Started

One Little City started with a simple frustration that any parent would recognize: it was the middle of winter, and summer camp planning had already begun.

One tab for the city recreation department. One for the private camp down the street. Another for the county programs. A spreadsheet trying to line up which weeks my kids were free. A group text asking other parents what they were signing up for. And somewhere in all of that, a lunch menu I could never seem to find.

I live in Falls Church City, Virginia — a small community often called "The Little City" — and like most parents here, I was spending hours every winter and spring piecing together the puzzle of summer camps, school calendars, and local events from a dozen different sources. None of them talked to each other.

So I built something. Not a company. Not a startup. Just a tool — one page where I could see everything my family needed in one place: the school calendar, lunch menus, every summer camp option side by side, and a planner to map it all out kid by kid.

Why Falls Church

Falls Church City is a small, tight-knit community — barely 2.2 square miles. Everyone knows each other at the pool, at the park, at school pickup. There's something special about a place this small: you can actually know what's going on.

That closeness is what makes this kind of tool possible. When I started listing every camp and program available to Little City families, it was something I could actually wrap my arms around. I could cross-reference every offering from Recreation & Parks, track down every local provider, and make sure nothing got missed.

Falls Church was the perfect place to build this — small enough to get right, real enough to matter.

A Bigger Problem

But the problem isn't unique to Falls Church. Every parent in every community deals with some version of this:

  • Fragmented information. Camp options scattered across city websites, private providers, Facebook groups, and word of mouth.
  • No single planning tool. Parents resort to spreadsheets, group texts, and sticky notes to coordinate schedules across kids.
  • Enrollment chaos. Different providers, different registration sites, different deadlines. Miss one and your kid's spot is gone.
  • School calendar confusion. Early dismissals, teacher workdays, and holiday breaks buried in PDF calendars that no one bookmarks.

These problems exist in Arlington, in Fairfax, in every suburb and city across the country. The details change — different schools, different camps, different providers — but the experience of being an overwhelmed parent trying to organize it all is universal.

Where We're Going

What makes Falls Church special isn't its size — it's the feeling that your community has your back. One Little City is about bringing that feeling to parents everywhere.

The same tool that helps families here can help families anywhere — we just need the local data. We're working with communities across Northern Virginia and beyond to bring their school calendars, camp options, and local programs into the platform.

The vision is simple: every parent should be able to open one page and see everything they need to plan their family's year. School dates, summer camps, after-school programs, local events — all in one place, organized around their kids. Every community deserves to feel like a Little City.

No more tab-juggling. No more spreadsheets. No more missing the registration deadline because you didn't know it existed.

Who Built This

My name is Sebastian Lewis. I'm a parent in Falls Church City with kids in the public schools. I built One Little City because I needed it, and I keep building it because other parents tell me they need it too.

This isn't a VC-backed startup. There's no premium tier or subscription. It's a community tool, built in the open, and it'll stay free for families.

If you're a parent and you want this for your community, or if you run a local program and want to make sure families can find you, I'd love to hear from you.

Overview

One Little City ("we," "our," or "the app") is a free community tool built for parents in Falls Church City, Virginia, and expanding to other communities. This privacy policy explains what information the app collects, how it is stored, and how it is used.

We take your family's privacy seriously. We do not sell your data to third parties. Period.
